Burn-to-Share – Content Sharing with Mobile Projectors
DIEM took part in the 9th International Conference on Mobile and Ubiquitous Multimedia (MUM) in Limassol, Cyprus focusing on one of the key themes in ubiquitous computing - how to create easy-to-use smart environments, which seamlessly integrate to the practices of everyday life. The concepts involving mobile device in interacting with a public display have most commonly used a Bluetooth connection although setting up the connection can be cumbersome due to device discovery and pairing.
The paper introduces Burn-to-Share interaction concept for sharing pictorial content on public screens with mobile projectors. Contrary to earlier methods in visual content sharing between mobile devices and public displays, our concept uses optical capture, making software installations, pairing and data connectivity unnecessary. Furthermore, with this approach the interaction is immediate and intuitive.
In creation of the publication was also built the first small-scale prototype and carried out technical tests of the system. The validation that the optical capture based content sharing is feasible, was made. The current prototype will serve as a basis for a full-scale field trial capable system. It will be used as a research platform for studying users’ content-sharing behavior in real-life ubicomp settings
