Smart-M3 Storage Solutions

The goal of this deliverable is to study the available RDF stores that could be utilized in the future implementations of Smart-M3 concept. The results of previous performance studies of RDF stores are summarized. The deliverable identifies a set of ten RDF stores, out of which five are selected for scalability reasons: AllegroGraph, BigData, OWLIM, 4store, and Virtuoso. Virtuoso and OWLIM perform equally well in many comparisons and seem to outperform the other triplestore candidates on many fronts. In a system where data is volatile, OWLIM offers a better overall throughput. Virtuoso seems to outperform it in queries in average and its free version seems to scale better than the free version of OWLIM. OWLIM, on the other hand, has better usability characteristics and comes with better support.
