DIEM

Building automation

The Building Automation Work Package of the Devices and Interoperability Ecosystem (DIEM) project aims to create an open platform for home and building automation environments to enable interoperability between the devices. As a result, the project will build up an evolving ecosystem that consists of many companies and research institutes.

The project topic is closely related to the other work packages of DIEM because it enables interoperability between different building and home automation devices. Interaction and user interfaces (a "horizontal" work package in DIEM) will be integrated into the platform architecture. The other DIEM horizontal work package "Interoperability" will provide connectivity between building automation systems and other, mainly Internet-based, systems. The platform will make it possible to easily create applications for controlling building automation systems both by the users and by automatic control methods that perform integrated control of all sub-systems. Also, home entertainment devices are in the scope at least as a potential interaction channel with the platform.

The project will internally be coordinated by the Electrical Building Services Centre (STOK). STOK is an abbreviation for "competence centre for electric building services" and is a part of the non-profit Development company Posintra Oy in the city of Porvoo.
